The magic all began with the Big Brother program. Being a Big Brother or is all about friendship!  All you have to do is be a friend to a child and be willing to give some of your time to a child . Pick up your Little Brother and do the things that friends do - build a model, toss a football, play computer games- those kind of everyday things you both enjoy. Big Brothers are a positive influence to  a little brother simply by enjoying quality time with a great friend. A few hours once a week or every couple of weeks can make a work of difference.

Activities need not be costly, in fact we encourage them to be low or no cost acitvities. Big and Little Brothers are encouraged to concentrate on their friendship instead! From time to time there may be costs associated with an activity- going to a movie or watching a professional sport, however that is not the norm. Where possible, Big Brothers are granted discounts to assist with these outings. Big Brothers and Little Brothers can also spend their time going for walks, kicking around a soccer ball, going fishing or heading to the park.

Big Brothers come in all shapes, sizes and ages, (although you must be 18 years of age or older to be a Big Brother) you do not have to be a "jock" or video game champion, to be a Big Brother. Efforts are made to match Big and Little Brothers together that have some similar, compatible interests. Like any friendship though, half the fun is learning new interests from one another.

It's easy to get involved! Here is what we ask:

That you commit to one to four hours a week for at least a year. This time will be spent with your Little Brother sharing the magic of friendship!

Agree to participate in a screening process that will include an application, interview and reference checks. It is also required that there be a police check done on the applicant and anybody in the home that is over 18.

Above all...agree to have fun!
